Photo of castle north of Oban

These are a few images I took while traveling through Scotland. The castle above is near Loch Linnhe, between Fort Williams and Oban, the town below with a view of the waterfront, the harbor, and McCaig's Tower, built around the turn of the century.

Photo of accordians

Above, we were serenaded with traditional music by these players until the wee hours of the night. They were in Oban for a music festival. We were astounded by the sweetness the accordians could produce, delicious melodies that were not at all campy. Iain Anderson, on the fiddle, won the evening's competition for fiddle playing. The next day, the Burns brothers, John in the orange, George out of view, would win first and third place in a pipe competiton, similar to a recorder. Alex Morrison and Ian Shepherd, round out the quartet in view.

Below, a sailboat moves along Loch Ness near the Urquhart Castle. We did not see Nessie. To the right, a game of rugby in the town of Greenock.

Photo of pub

A typical pub in the town of Portree, on the Isle of Skye. The people were from all over the British Isles and the world, and they played instruments, drank, sang, and chatted.
